Thanks to The Lumineers: Neyla, Jeremiah, Wes and Stelth for playing in the Great Room with me. That was inspired. "My Eyes" is a striking piece of music and so satisfying to hear "Pulaski" with cello and accordion. #lftgr

Live From the Great Room with Theaster Gates, 5.1.17. #livefromthgreatroom #lftgr #theastergates
Tune in on Facebook Tomorrow 12:30 pst. My guest will be the artist, Theaster Gates. #livefromthegreatroom #lftgr #theastergates
Theaster Gates is my next great room guest (Monday, May 1). Though he is musical and music has a part in his multimedia work, This will be my first guest that isn't technically a musician. He is one of the most exciting artists to emerge in the last decade. Starting out as a sculptor and his work has expanded to many materials even those that make up a community turning an entire city block on chicago's south side in to an art center and social experiment. It is art that goes beyond the static museum and gallery environment. Check out this article in the guardian https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2017/jan/12/theaster-gates-interview-poor-race-regen-projects-review
Theaster and I are collaborating on some songs based on his recent show at regen projects "but to be a poor race”. Think of this as a live workshop where we set to turn his poems into songs.
