I thought I would be doing a breezy post tonight about my daughter’s first Halloween trick or treating experience. Instead I’ve been watching the horror unfolding not only in my hometown, but in my neighborhood of fifteen years. This one hits close. I spent long hours walking these piers, reflecting in the days and months after 9/11, coming back to them for solace constantly. I wrote many a song there, including these lyrics. Pray for New York.
The sun sets down on the highway piers
Brick walls that have weathered the years
I need you playing me
A Downtown Lullaby
